About
Who are HyperDuck Music Studios?
Chris Geehan & Dan Byrne-McCullough are the co-founders and only surviving members of HyperDuck Music Studios. These talented musicians have been friends since the dawn of the millennium, both embarking on music courses in Northern Ireland, where they developed their skills and tastes.
Dan was predominantly a guitar player and, like Chris, put a lot of passion and soul into his recording and performance. Chris started out as a drummer but also began to dabble in piano, discovering an interest in production with Logic Systems. Both graduated with Distinctions from the Music Practice Course in Belfast Metropolitan College and proceeded to Newcastle College, England. Both passed “Go” and collected £200. Here they would study Jazz, Commercial and Popular Music.
Chris had by now purchased a MIDI keyboard, Cubase SX3, and an MAudio interface. As flat-mates and close collaborators, the pair honed their skills with these tools, investing their modest projects with the maximum amount of creativity and flair.
How HyperDuck Music Studios began:
HyperDuck Music Studios was formed way back on the 15th of October 2007, when Dan and Chris were enlisted to create a track for the game Iji. The group was christened “Chris Geehan & Dan Byrne-McCullough,” as their imagination was sucked dry by the music. Words such as “Hyper” and “Duck” had escaped them completely. The name ‘HyperDuck’ was added as a retcon in issue #93. While the boys considered their work on Iji as a favour to a friend, it wasn’t long before Dan Remar, of Remar Games, called our heroes back to complete not just one measly tune, but the entire soundtrack for Iji
The response to Iji’s release was overwhelming. Dan, Chris and Mr Remar were extremely pleasantly surprised. The great feedback and countless positive appraisals from indie game reviews increased the popularity of Iji and the Iji soundtrack, too.
Off the back of their Iji success, HyperDuck Music Studios have undertaken a number of exciting opportunities, stay tuned to the news page for updates, or simply take off your tin-foil hat and let us beam them to your brain!
Keep listening and keep playing!
